During the time of the 2000 presidential race, George W. Bush opened up his mouth and out came a southern twang, a voice and speech that made Americans believe that he was one of them, that he was just like you and me.
By 2006 that image had finally faded. Out, finally, was the real W, the guy who was born with a silver spoon, who's grammatical errors spawned hundreds of satirists to jump for joy, and was truly out of touch with everyday America.
On to 2008. Barack Obama is elected president. A Harvard grad, a lawyer, a Senator, someone who speaks with excellent grammar.
President Obama is the man that is truly in touch with his constituents. He is not someone who is out of touch with the everyday American, as George W. proved to be.
Here as evidence as to why. An article in the Washington Post, an inspiring story about a Michigan woman who wrote to Obama about her difficulties that I encourage everyone to read, reveals that our President reads ten letters each day from everyday Americans.
These aren't just letters that praise Obama, but letters from all perspectives, most of which, according to Obama, call him an "idiot."
But Obama doesn't just read the letters, he personally responds to "five to fifteen" letters each week.
This is a president that wants to hear from everyday Americans, wants to hear what they have to say, and actually cares.
